Displaced persons are not statistics; they are stories.
Behind every number is a name. Behind every name is a face. Behind every face is a heart that God formed in the womb, knows completely, and loves with a love that no displacement can interrupt.
Displacement may take people away from their homes, communities, livelihoods, schools, and places of worship, but it cannot take them beyond the presence of God. He sees those who have been forced from their homes, knows their pain, and remains near to them even in the most difficult seasons.
As we pray today, may our hearts move beyond statistics to compassion. May we remember the families, children, widows, elderly people, and vulnerable individuals living in camps and temporary settlements, and may the Church respond not only with prayer but also with practical expressions of Christ's love.
Scripture: “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” — Psalm 139:7–10
Forced displacement continues to affect millions of people around the world, with Africa carrying a significant share of the burden.
In northern Nigeria, insecurity involving insurgency, armed groups, and criminal violence has displaced large numbers of people, particularly in states such as Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa.
Across parts of the Sahel, including Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, conflict and insecurity have also forced families from their ancestral homes. Similar humanitarian challenges affect communities in other parts of Africa, including Mozambique, South Sudan, and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
These are not merely humanitarian statistics. They are men, women, and children who wake each morning in camps, temporary shelters, host communities, and makeshift settlements, often uncertain about when they will return home.
The Church is called to remember them, pray for them, serve them, and stand with them.

1. Pray for the Safety and Protection of Displaced Persons
Pray for the physical and emotional safety of displaced people across Nigeria and West Africa.
Ask God to protect them from further violence, abuse, exploitation, trafficking, sexual violence, and other dangers that can arise in vulnerable settings. Pray for secure camps, safe communities, and responsible systems of protection.
Scripture: “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” — Psalm 91:1
2. Pray for Governments, Organisations, and Churches
Ask God to move the hearts of governments, international organisations, humanitarian agencies, local communities, and churches to respond generously, efficiently, and compassionately to the needs of displaced people.
Pray for wisdom in the distribution of resources, accountability in humanitarian programmes, and sustainable solutions that help families move from emergency relief towards restoration and stability.
Scripture: “I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD. I will search for the lost and bring back the strays.” — Ezekiel 34:15–16
3. Pray for Children Growing Up in Displacement
Pray for children growing up in displacement camps and temporary settlements.
Ask God to provide access to quality education, adequate nutrition, healthcare, emotional support, and safe environments. Pray especially for protection from recruitment into armed groups, exploitation, trafficking, and other forms of abuse.
May these children not be defined by their present circumstances but be given opportunities to build a hopeful future.

4. Pray for Christian Displaced Persons
Intercede for Christian IDPs who have lost homes, livelihoods, possessions, communities, and even church buildings because of conflict and insecurity.
Pray that their faith will remain strong during this wilderness season. Ask God to rebuild what has been destroyed, restore what has been lost, and provide communities where displaced believers can worship, fellowship, and grow in Christ.

5. Pray for Missionaries, Volunteers, and Relief Workers
Pray for missionaries, volunteers, humanitarian workers, medical teams, pastors, and others serving among displaced communities.
Ask God to protect them, renew their strength, provide sustainable resources, and give them wisdom to serve effectively. May they have the compassion to see people beyond their immediate needs and the grace to bring hope, dignity, and the love of Christ to those they serve.
Scripture: “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” — Isaiah 40:29
“I have not forgotten you in the wilderness. What feels temporary is not your end but a place of preparation, and I will lead you into the future I have prepared for you.”
We declare that displacement will not have the final word.
May God protect families, restore dignity, provide shelter, heal wounded hearts, and open pathways from displacement to stability and restoration.
May the Church arise with compassion and become a source of hope, practical help, fellowship, and spiritual strength to displaced communities.
May homes be rebuilt, families restored, children given a future, and communities renewed. May every displaced person know that they are seen, remembered, valued, and loved by God.
